Applications now open for Melbourne Design Fair 2024!

@ngvmelbourne and the Melbourne Art Foundation are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the third edition of Melbourne Design Fair, set to take place 23 - 26 May 2024 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Melbourne Design Fair is the only event of its kind in Australia. Initiated by the NGV with the support of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, Melbourne Design Fair is the flagship event of Melbourne Design Week. Its broad audience encompasses art and design collectors, collecting institutions, professionals in the interior design industry, design media, enthusiasts of art and design, and the wider public.

The 2023 Fair welcomed over 10,500 visitors to view the work of over 170 designers, resulting in $2.7million in sales during the Fair, and an estimated $2.1million in sales post event.

Melbourne Design Fair would like to extend its warmest thanks to the many hands that made the 2023 edition such an incredible success. With 10,500 visitors over four days, we were thrilled to welcome our community of designers, makers, galleries, design and craft organisations, agencies, collectors, and patrons at Australia's largest presentation of twentieth century and contemporary collectible design.

We look forward to seeing you all again in 2024.

Vast timescales of organic and inorganic materials

Vast timescales of organic and inorganic materials are foregrounded in the work of designer and furniture craftsman Damien Wright. Working with recovered Australian timbers, he explores notions of place and placemaking, belonging and alienation. Through a careful selection of woods and mixed materials, he interrogates the intersection of deep time and contemporary culture. Wright’s Tectonic (Console) 2023 is crafted from 10,000 year old Ancient Red Gum, resin and bronze. Wright is presented by @gallerysallydancuthbert at Melbourne Design Fair.
